Looking for something meaningful to do over spring break? Then sign up for an ELAP Alternative Spring Break Project! Experiential Learning Abroad Programs (ELAP) provides structured volunteer and internship placements throughout Latin America. Spend your spring break volunteering with the Leatherback Sea Turtle Conservation Project on the Caribbean Coast of Costa Rica, or assisting an orphanage in the Dominican Republic.

Dates Available: March 3 - 10, March 10 - 17, March 17 - 24, March 24 - 31
The main objective of this conservation project is to protect sea turtle nests from human poachers and beach erosion.

Activities
  • Accompany conservation park staff on night patrols
  • Tag and measure nesting female sea turtles
  • Construct safe hatcheries
  • Monitor temperature and humidity levels at the hatcheries
  • Relocate nests from the beach to the park
  • Participate in marking and cleaning the beach.

The Children's Dining Hall and Learning Center aids children living in one of the poorest, most under-served neighborhoods in Santiago. This organization provides the necessary nutrition to poverty-stricken children and coordinates activities and classes that lead to successful development.

Activities
  • Help maintain the children's learning environment
  • Play games, organize arts and crafts activities, and teach English
  • Build and paint walls, benches, tables, and playground equipment
  • Plant grass and flowers in the garden
  • Help prepare meals
Both programs are $1500 and include the following:
